Following the earthquake that struck Japan a few weeks ago, the Audemars Piguet Foundations, in collaboration with AP Japan, have decided to grant USD 250,000 in humanitarian aid to AAR, the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan.
Since 1979, AAR has been providing assistance to the most disadvantaged people, particularly those affected by humanitarian crises or natural disasters. Emergency aid is one of its priorities. The AAR helps to meet the basic needs of victims while participating in the reconstruction of disaster-stricken areas.
The magnitude 7.5 earthquake on 1 January 2024 shook the Noto peninsula in central Japan. It was felt as far away as Tokyo, more than 300 kilometres away, and caused significant damage well beyond the perimeter of the event.
Several rescue teams were deployed after the disaster, but thousands of people are still living in evacuation centres, while others remain without running water.
The donation from the Audemars Piguet Foundations will enable the AAR to step up its work on the ground with the victims of the earthquake.
