The "Forester’s world" educational project aims to develop a sustainable bond between pupils and the forest. Through practical work and forest activities, primary and secondary students discover the world of forestry. School classes visit the forest on a regular basis with a professional forester for two to three years, in all seasons, to maintain a dedicated plot of land and observe the small-scale transformations and changes that occur there. Pupils accompany the forester during some of his tasks and are thus able to experience the forest and how it works from one season to the next. In addition, teachers learn the skills they need to use the forest as a place for outdoor learning.

By enabling pupils to understand the link between man and forest, between forestry and the use of lumber, and experience sustainability first-hand, the project contributes to education for sustainable development.

Evaluation of its impact throughout the project showed that by combining theory, fun activities and practical work, the pupils develop their decision-making and action capacities, while at the same time becoming familiar with the forest and learning about it from various angles.

From 2019 to 2022, 159 classes across Switzerland have benefited from the project, with 3,180 students taking part. In total, 610 days were spent in the forest.
