The educational approach based on games and sensory experiences enables to raise awareness among children and young people of respect for nature and the challenges of sustainability.
The Morges trail, located in the canton of Vaud, follows the course of the Morges River, crossing a variety of forests, skirting vineyards and pastures and ending at the foot of Vufflens castle. Built in 2006, the path had been severely damaged. Firstly, the path and structural features were no longer safe to use and needed to be restored. In addition, the existing information panels had deteriorated and no longer met visitors' expectations.
The "Sentier de la Morges" project aimed to make the existing path safer and extend it by almost 2 kilometres to provide additional walking and discovery opportunities. It also included the creation of two educational trails. The educational approach based on games and sensory experiences enables to raise awareness among families and primary school pupils of the richness of the Morges valley, respect for its flora and fauna, and the challenges of sustainability. The trails are compatible with the Plan d'études romand (curriculum of the French-speaking part of Switzerland) and are complemented by an educational pack.
As they walk along this trail steeped in history – from the mills and mineral waters of the Morges to Vufflens castle – visitors learn to observe and recognise the natural, landscape and cultural features of the area while understanding the importance of preserving them.
