Forêtxcellence aims to set up a supra-regional value chain for resonance wood from the Jura Arc.
Some of the trees in our forests have exceptional properties. Their wood is of such high quality that it can be used to make the most prestigious objects, including musical instruments. In the Jura Arc, a small proportion of spruce trees are among these prestigious woods, known as resonance wood.
The Forêtxcellence intercantonal project, led by ForêtNeuchâtel and supported by the cantons of Neuchâtel, Vaud and Bern, aims to identify and promote these rare trees and to set up a supra-regional value chain for resonance wood from the Jura Arc. These prefabricated planks will be preserved and displayed in a xylotheque in Cernier (NE), where luthiers and instrument makers will be able to come and obtain supplies to create unique works of musical art from clearly identified sources. It will also be a place to raise public awareness of the richness of the forests of the Jura Arc, as well as being the cradle of an ancestral, complete and circular know-how, from the forester to the instrument maker, with excellence as its common denominator.
Forêtxcellence embodies the singularity offered by nature and reflects the unique terroir of the Jura Arc, the cradle of the world’s finest watchmaking.
